New Orleans: Finding Good Eats

All throughout the French Quarter seductive smells of cajun specialities waft into the streets. Crawfish bubbles in big pots of broth, fresh oysters on ice are displayed in a circle like the pedals of a flower, blackened chicken and alligator crisp in pots of oil and barbeque pork and beef are shredded and scooped into toasted baguettes.

Like in every city there are restaurants you either have to reserve a table at weeks in advance or wait for hours to get into. Cafe DuMonde, known for its lightly fried and doughy beignets, has become one of the most famous establishments in town and has a long line 24 hours a day. While it can be fun to go to the most well-known eateries, you don't have to go further than the block you stand on to get an amazing meal.

I'm generally a devout Yelp user, but in New Orleans I recommend following your nose. Oh and be prepared to gain a few pounds on your trip, but don't worry...it'll be well worth it.
