"Mom" stands guard outside temples in and around Chiang Mai. It comes from the Lanna Kingdom which encompassed Northern Thailand before the country was unified. Not much is known about it except that it's supposed to be a protector with extraordinary strength and magic. English-speaking tourists love to snap photos with it for obvious reasons.
