Berkshire County: Berkshires Arts Festival

Visual artists creating in every medium have long found inspiration in the tranquility and beauty of The Berkshires. Each year over a hundred artisans, photographers, sculpturists, jewelry makers, painters, leather makers, ceramacists, glass blowers and carpenters from around the county and beyond gather in the quaint mountain resort of Butternut to display their work.

It's a museum of everything from quirky handmade trinkets to large scale masterpieces for the home and garden. It feels more like a farmers market than a collection of pop-up galleries. Visitors and artists chat as they stroll in and out of stalls enjoying the summer.

It's an event for the whole family. There's farm stands selling locally-made olive oil, roasted nuts, and maple syrup. There's also a tent grilling up chicken, burgers, and hot dogs. In the corner, a local band playing folk or bluegrass completes the ambience.

It's the ideal place to pick up a unique gift, but it also provides insight into a thriving arts community many might be surprised to find so far off the beaten path.

The last weekend of the festival is June 12, 13 & 14.
