Amidst the bright green fields and layers of evergreen
hilltops that define the Berkshirian landscape, you’ll find miniature wooden
shacks that look like abandoned playhouses. They easily blend in with the surrounding
colonial style homes and old barns.
Inside these hand-built structures, you’ll find a miniature
farmers market of unexpected goodies from nearby farms; crates of beets, kale,
eggs, bread, cheese, milk - you never know what you’ll stumble upon, but you
can always be sure it’s in season.
All you have to do is pull over, grab whatever looks good to
you and stick your cash in an unlocked box. You can even reach in and get
yourself change if you don’t have the exact amount owed.
These farm stands are a win-win for the community. Residents
are able to pick up fresh ingredients at their convenience and farmers are able
to easily distribute their products to a wider audience with virtually no
additional work.
The trust upon which these miniature shops operate
illuminates why so many locals are proud to call the Berkshires home.
