Berkshire County: A Musical Picnic

Tanglewood has been the musical heart of The Berkshires since it hosted its first concert in the mid-1930s. A several acre wooded property with a magnificent lawn, it's the perfect spot for a summer series. The cheery bright blue days are only matched in beauty by the spherical blanket of stars that appears when the sun sets behind the Catskill Mountains.

It's one of the most popular venues in the Northeast for big names in Jazz, Classical, Folk and Musical Theatre. Families from around the county and beyond gather on the grass drinking wine, eating cheese and enjoying world-class music.

Each season they put on the Tanglewood Music Festival with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in residency. It's widely considered one of the most premier music festivals in the country. This year's performances include everyone from American Singer-Songwriter Jackson Browne to virtuosic string quartets.

Every year world-renowned Folk singer James Taylor plays the venue on the Fourth of July. He's been a proud Berkshire resident for decades.

An idyllic Americana scene - children play in the grass, parents mingle with neighbors and picnic-ers pass homemade goodies in between blankets. No tablets or smart phones are in sight. It's practically impossible to get reception.

Nothing's more quintessentially Berkshire.
