Bali: An Economy of Rice

The landscape of central Bali is defined by acres of rice terraces expanding into the horizon. Hop on a motorbike out of Ubud in any direction and within minutes you'll see rows of what looks like perfectly trimmed bright green grass drawing patterns through soft brown water where the next batch of sprouts is beginning to bud.

Bali is one of the largest exporters of the crop in the world making the industry more lucrative than the island's booming tourism business.

Clearly, one of the farmers forgot to pick up his snack.
