Gili Meno: Where Simplicity Reigns
Gili Meno has one grocery shop. It's the size of the convenient store at a gas station and if they don't have what you're looking for you gotta head to the neighboring island of Lombok.
Ferries make the journey twice a day: once at the crack of dawn and once in the afternoon. If you leave on the later boat, you have no way back until the following morning.
Locals make the day trip several times a week to run their errands. They head over at 6 a.m. to pay their bills in cash, check their P.O. boxes, stock up on Bintang and cigarettes (they go fast) and buy supplies in bulk for their prospective businesses.
While the lack of resources may seems like a hassle, it makes for a simpler way of life where work is put to rest when the sun sets.
